Former Disney actress Bella Thorne took to Instagram on June 11 to reveal her character’s extreme arc in the upcoming TV movie Perfect High.
Thorne will play a high school dancer named Amanda, who starts using prescription painkillers after suffering a knee injury. According to her Instagram post, her character eventually starts using heroin.
The film will give Thorne, who recently starred in The Duff, an opportunity to show-off her dramatic acting chops and show us a darker and more mature side. The starlet is best known for her work with Disney after appearing in 75 episodes of the hit TV series Shake It Up!
Vanessa Parise, whose recent credits include Jack and Jill vs. the World and Kiss the Bride, will direct with Tina Pehme and Kim C. Roberts as executive producers.
Ross Butler, Israel Broussard and Daniela Bobadilla round out the cast as part of Thorne’s high school clique. The movie will air on Lifetime on June 27.
This is a busy year for Thorne, who will also be starring in MTV’s new TV series Scream. The show, based on the iconic horror film franchise, follows a group of teens that become victims of a killer who’s out for blood.
