Nick Carter stars in Syfy’s Dead 7, a post-apocalyptic Western about a ragtag group trying to fight a zombie plague. The film also stars Backstreet Boys bandmates A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough, *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, 98 Degrees’ Jeff Timmons, and members from O-Town.
A new trailer for the film was released Thursday. Carter plays Jack, the reluctant hero who unites a group of outlaws to face the zombie menace. The singer turned actor, wrote and executive produced the film, which was originally set into production as Dead West to replace an earlier Kickstarter-funded project, Evil Blessings.
Danny Roew, a music video specialist directed the project, which was produced by The Asylum (Sharknado).
“There was this idea of having a cast of boy banders, maybe Shaquille O’Neal, and some traditional actors, and making a crazy hybrid-collage of a movie,” Carter told The Daily Beast.
The singer also explained how he cast Fatone. “One of the characters was called Whiskey Joe, and I thought about Joey Fatone—for some reason I thought he’d be awesome to play the part,” added Carter.
Dead 7 premieres on Syfy April 1.
