Things get dark real quick for Nasir Khan (Riz Ahmed) after a night of partying with a stranger in the new trailer for the HBO limited series The Night Of. When the stranger is found dead the next day and Khan has no recollection of what happened, he finds himself being interrogated by a detective. With all signs pointing to him as the killer, including bloody hands, he finds guidance from attorney Jack Stone (John Turturro).
The Night Of, a remake of the 2008-09 British television series Criminal Justice, was created by Steve Zaillian (Schindler’s List, Gangs of New York) and Richard Price (The Wanderers, The Wire). According to HBO, the limited series delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and the feral purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused await trial for felony crimes.
Stone was originally played by James Gandolfini in the pilot episode, but he died just one month after. Robert De Niro agreed to take over after Gandolfini’s sudden passing, but had to dropout due to scheduling issues. Turturro took over for De Niro.
The Night Of premieres July 10.
