Before the 2014 MTV VMAs turned into the #BeyMAs, there were a few other memorable moments that we couldn’t stop talking about.

Here are our Top 5:

Nicki Minaj’s wardrobe malfunction. After giving us plenty to look at during her  jungle-themed “Anaconda” performance, Nicki nearly turned the show X-rated when her dress failed during her performance of “Bang Bang.” But leave it to Nicki to make even an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction look fierce. She later addressed the incident on Instagram saying, “God is good. As long as a nipple didn’t come out to play, I’m fine.”

Audience live cams: Let’s hear it for the real winner of the night: technology. Because without those sneaky little cameras scattered throughout the LA Forum, we wouldn’t have caught J.Lo sharing a moment with her ex Casper Smart, Rita Ora’s “WTF” face during Nicki Minaj’s performance, or  Katy Perry doing everything in her power to not acknowledge her denim-clad date.

Backstage encounters. Ever since footage of Taylor Swift throwing major shade at Justin Bieber during the Billboard Music Awards went viral last year, we knew no one was safe from the lens of those creepy hallway cams.  At this year’s VMAs, not only did we witness an awkward J.Lo – Miley moment, but the long-suspected romance between Ariana Grande and Big Sean was confirmed when the two were spotted holding hands backstage after her performance.

DID YOU SEE THIS?!? @arianagrande & @bigsean holding hands!!!!

The new era of Miley.  One year after her scandalous performance with Robin Thicke, the singer came to this year’s show denouncing all things twerk (have at it, Taylor Swift) and even used her Video of the Year win to raise awareness for runaway homeless youth. Who saw that coming?

The Beyonce Show. Because let’s face it, everything in the first 2 hours and 15 minutes was just a set up for Act III, the Queen B’s sure-to-be epic performance which was… pretty damn epic.  Not only did she perform practically every song on her latest self-titled album, but the whole thing reached an unbearable level of cuteness when she accepted her Video Vanguard award from husband Jay Z and a cheering Blue Ivy.

The Carters: 1 (billion). Jayoncé haters: 0.
