Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez is adding published author to her list of accomplishments. The star of Jane the Virgin announced on Tuesday, June 16 on Twitter that she will publish her first book, I Can and I Will: Tools My Daddy Gave Me.
I Can and I Will will be published in 2016 by Simon & Schuster and will share words of wisdom from Gina’s Puerto Rican father, Genaro Rodriguez. These quotes gave her strength in times of hardship, and through personal stories she will describe how they were challenged and confirmed.
“My father would always remind me to give away your blessings to make room for more,” the 30-year-old actress stated in the press release. “This book has been a dream of mine for many years now, a love letter to a father who has given me strength I only know is right to share with others. If you can move, stretch, teach, inspire, encourage and motivate others by telling your stories why wouldn’t you?”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the phrase “I can and I will” come from Rodriguez. The actress first spoke about her father’s advice and the roles of Latinos in Hollywood when she accepted her Golden Globe this year for Best Actress in a TV Comedy, stating: “This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes. My father used to tell me to say every morning, ‘Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will. Well, Dad—today is a great day. I can and I did’.”
