Matt Damon has played a variety of characters throughout his career including Jason Bourne, Will Hunting, Private Ryan, and Mark Watney. But in all his years working in film, he hasn’t portrayed a superhero yet. The 45-year-old actor, who is currently on a promotional tour in support of his latest film Jason Bourne, spoke to The Irish Examiner about potentially wearing a cape on the big screen one day.
“If he (Ben Affleck) was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute,” Damon said. “I’d love to work with Ben.”
But audiences shouldn’t hold their breath just yet. Even though Affleck most recently took on the role of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Damon doesn’t think his best friend would be willing to sit on the sidelines for him.
“The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it,” the father of four explained. “So until he’s willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we’re not going to get on with it.”
Now that Affleck has established himself as Gotham’s hero, maybe Damon would consider following in Chris O’Donnell‘s footsteps and play Robin? No word yet if their friendship would survive that suggestion.
Jason Bourne opens in theaters on July 29.
