The new trailer for Paramount’s Ben-Hur, looks like a combination of 300 and Gladiator which is pretty awesome. Based on Lew Wallace’s timeless novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ tells the story of a falsely accused Jewish nobleman who survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his Roman best friend, who betrayed him.
Here’s the official description from the studio:
“BEN-HUR is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge but finds redemption.”
The historical drama is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and co-stars Rodrigo Santoro (Jane Got a Gun) as Jesus, Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones) as Pontius Pilate, Morgan Freeman (Now You See Me 2) as Ilderim, and Sofia Black-D’Elia (The Night of) as Tirzah.
This is the sixth time Wallace’s novel was made for the big screen. The third adaptation which was released in 1959 and starred Charlton Heston in the titular role, is the most well-known of the bunch.
Ben-Hur opens in theaters on August 19.
