Salt and Fire doesn’t have a U.S. release date but the international trailer has a lot of people excited. In the Werner Herzog-directed film, a scientist blames the head of a large company for an ecological disaster in South America. But when a volcano begins to show signs of erupting, they must unite to avoid a disaster.
The film stars Michael Shannon (Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice) in the role of the evil CEO who kidnaps two scientists, played by Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) and Veronica Ferres (Hector and the Search for Happiness).
“I went down to Bolivia — an amazing experience,” Shannon told Indie Wire at the Berlin Film Festival. “We shot on the Uyuni Salt Flats and it blew my mind. We even stayed in a hotel that’s made out of salt; it claimed to be “The Premier Salt Hotel in the World.” That was a great script, too: an environmental drama. We were pretending the salt flats are the site of an environmental disaster, [German actress Veronica Ferres] plays a scientist investigating, and I’m the head of the corporation responsible.”
