Based on a true story, David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill) are adventurous best friends looking to make some real money. They’re twenty-something-year-olds who while living in Miami Beach during the Iraq War, discover how to exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts.
Starting small, they begin raking in big money as arms dealers and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.
“You told me you guys were selling bed sheets, said David’s girlfriend Iz (Ana de Armas) “I also told you that we were selling other stuff too, David replies. “I thought you meant pillows,” she retorts.
The Todd Phillips (The Hangover trilogy) directed film co-stars Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper and Kevin Pollack (The Whole Ten Yards). It’s rated R for language throughout, drug use and some sexual references.
War Dogs opens in theaters on August 19.
