Another day, another celebrity quits social media due to online bullies. Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley has deactivated her popular Instagram account after receiving backlash from fans after making a statement against gun violence.
In the now deleted post, she said, “Thinking about how lucky I am like……… Serious bit: as I sat in the audience yesterday [at the Teen Choice Awards] tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence. I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came on stage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must #stoptheviolence”
Fans were not happy with her comment with many calling her a hypocrite due to her role in a film where many characters carry and use guns. Others are begging her to return to the popular photo/video sharing site where she often posted her workouts and behind-the-scenes content from the film. Some going as far as contacting her friend and co-star John Boyega for help.
“She’s doing what’s best for her, Boyega told a fan. “I won’t be advising my friend to come back. Sorry. She makes her own decisions and as a friend I support her right to.”
