President John F. Kennedy’s younger sister and last surviving sibling, Jean Kennedy Smith will write a memoir about her family titled The Nine of Us: Growing Up Kennedy. The news was confirmed by the Irish Central on Sunday.
The former Ambassador to Ireland, 88 years-old, was the eighth child in the family. The nine siblings included President JFK; Attorney General Robert Kennedy; Senator Edward Kennedy; Jean Kennedy herself; Eunice Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics; Patricia Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy, Roseary Kennedy, and Joe Kennedy Jr, who died on a World War 2 dangerous flying mission.
Agent Laurie Abkemeier, who represents Smith, told the Irish Central that the book will recount “charming stories” about the Kennedy’s, and “the lessons [her] parents worked so hard to teach [their kids] as they set off to help others and make a difference in the world.”
The book will be released in October. Smith served as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland under President Bill Clinton and in 2011 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work with Very Special Arts, a nonprofit she founded in 1974 to connect the arts with people with disabilities.
