Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones has turned a negative into a positive. The 48-year-old comedian, who was bullied on Twitter in July, has caught the attention of the NBC Olympics executive producer for her social media coverage of the Rio events.
Dressed in head-to-toe red, white, and blue, Jones Tweeted support to Team USA on Saturday for events that included swimming, volleyball, soccer, water polo and men’s gymnastics. She watched the events on a TV and computer but that wasn’t enough! She told her 365,000 followers that she needs at least 5 television sets to watch every competition comfortably.
“Yep I love the Olympics,” she Tweeted. “It’s the only time all countries come together to compete! I love it!!”
Writer/Producer Michael Shoemaker enjoyed her coverage so much that he told his colleague Jim Bell, executive producer of NBC’s Olympics about it. This resulted in Bell playfully inviting her to Rio de Janeiro!
Shoemaker Tweeted, “note to my friends @jfb & #nbcolympics:Get @Lesdoggg to Rio & give her a microphone. 30% more USA gold + #ratings”
Bell replied, “@shoemakermike OK @Lesdoggg you’re officially invited to Rio. Want to come?”
Jones responded excitedly, “@jfb @shoemakermike hmmmm don’t play cause y’all need me! I would have the whole Olympics pumped!!”
No word yet if Jones has started packing her bags for a long flight to Brazil, but she’s already back at covering Sunday’s Olympic events.
