Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are not in the clear just yet with the Stairway to Heaven copyright lawsuit. Michael Skidmore, the trustee of the Randy Craig Wolfe Trust, has filed an appeal against the band Led Zeppelin.
The notice reads, “Please take notice that Plaintiff Michael Skidmore, Trustee for the Randy Craig Wolfe Trust, hereby appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from the final judgment entered on June 23, 2016, as well as any and all interlocutory rulings, decisions, and orders that gave rise to the judgment and are merged therein.”
The lawsuit claims Plant and Page ripped off the song Taurus from the band Spirit. The tune was released in 1968, before Stairway to Heaven. A Los Angeles jury determined Skidmore was not able to prove the legendary rockers copied a riff from the instrumental on June 23.
Page recently thanked fans for standing by them during the trial saying he was “moved” by their support.
“A few weeks have passed since the judgment, with the jury reaching a unanimous decision in a remarkably short time,” Page said. “Throughout the lengthy journey to that verdict, and even more recently, I have received and been aware of the overwhelming wave of support, encouragement, and congratulations that has been deeply moving.”
He added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank all those who contributed such a positive energy to me.”
A representative for Led Zeppelin has yet to respond publicly to the appeal.
