HBO released a teaser Monday of The Night Of starring John Turturro and Riz Ahmed. The drama will detail the police investigation of a murder case in New York City.
The show was originally greenlit in 2013 with the title Criminal Justice and was loosely based on the acclaimed 2008 BBC series of the same name. The late James Gandolfini was set to star as a New York City attorney who gets in over his head when he takes on the case of a Pakistani man (Riz Ahmed) charged with the murder of a girl.
Steven Zaillian (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), who helmed the original pilot, will serve as executive producer. He’s set to direct seven episodes, with James Marsh (The Theory of Everything) set to helm one.
Bill Camp, Payman Moaadi, Poorna Jagannathan, Michael Kenneth Williams, Amara Karan, Jeannie Berlin, and Glenne Headly have also joined the cast.
The Night Of will premiere on HBO in July.
