Latinos Nominated Golden Globes 2016

On Thursday, December 10 The Hollywood Foreign Press Association revealed the 73rd annual Golden Globes nominations. Within the nominees were a handful of Latino actors, directors and series that were recognized for their talent and contributions to the entertainment industry.

America Ferrera alongside Chloë Grace Moretz, Angela Bassett and Dennis Quaid were on hand to announce the actors, films and television series that would compete at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards that will take place on January 10th.

Gina Rodríguez is nominated for a second time in the category “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical” for her role as Jane Villanueva in the hit CW series Jane The Virgin. The actress of Puerto Rican decent won last year in the same category dedicating her trophy to her father who always told her “she can and she will.

Gael García Bernal receives his first Golden Globe nomination in the category “Best Actor in a TV Series – Comedy” for his Amazon show Mozart In the Jungle, nominated for “Best TV Series – Comedy.”

Brazilian actor Wagner Moura is nominated in the “Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama” for his role as Pablo Escobar in the Netflix original series Narcos. This is his first Golden Globe nomination. The show also received its first nomination in the category “Best TV Series – Drama”.

Oscar Isaac is being recognized for his role in the HBO series Show Me A Hero in the category “Best Actor in a Limited-Series or TV Movie”. In 2014 he was nominated as “Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical” for Inside Llewyn Davis.

This is the fourth Golden Globe nomination for Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu. He is nominated for “Best Director” for his feature The Revenant which is also competing for “Best Screenplay”. Last year he was nominated for two Globes in the “Best Director” category for Birdman and won “Best Screenplay”. In 2007 his film Babel landed him a “Best Director” nomination.

The Latino presence in the “Best Foreign Film” category is the Chilean feature The Club directed by Pablo Larraín. It is the only Latino film among the nominees and has received accolades in various film festivals around the world.
