Over the years, Karla Souza has built a name for herself by taking on roles in popular Mexican series like Los Héroes del Norte and Niño Santo. By 2013, the Mexican native earned rock star status when she costarred in two of the highest grossing Mexican films in the country’s history, Nosotros Los Nobles (The Noble Family) and Instructions Not Included.
In 2014, Souza sought new frontiers and headed to Los Angeles, California. It didn’t take long before TV executive Shonda Rhimes — the master mind behind other ABC shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal — took notice and cast her as a timid law student named Laurel Castillo in How To Get Away With Murder starring Oscar award-winning actress Viola Davis.
“Shonda [Rhimes] allowed my character to be Latino without the typical stereotypes,” said Souza in an exclusive interview with Variety Latino. “We don’t only represent one thing, I want everyone to know that we have so much more to offer and we are multifaceted.”
Souza is set to make her big debut as a producer in the Mexican film ¿Qué Culpa Tiene el Niño?, currently in post-production.
