Leah Remini keeps opening up about her experience with Scientology and the encounters she had with Tom Cruise and former wife Katie Holmes, the church’s key players, during her time with the organization.
“We were constantly fighting, for lack of a better a word,” said the 45-year-old actress on Good Morning America on Monday, Nov. 2. The interview comes only two days after her 20/20 special was televised where she talked about the controversial religion, Cruise, and her difficult decision to leave the institution.
During the sit-down with GMA, Remini gave an emotional response to the apology Holmes released last Friday in which she “regrets” having upset Leah in the past: “Now I really know what she was going through, because at the time, I was thinking of myself and my family and what we were going through. I had no idea she was going through probably a lot more,” expressed Remini.
Leaving the past behind her, the former King of Queens actress says she now connects with Holmes on a new level since they both left Scientology for the same reason: their daughters. “Looking back now and seeing her and Suri out there in the world, and her being able to be with her daughter and live her life, I’m touched by it because I know now she did what she did, leaving in the way that she did, because she had to protect her daughter. It’s really because we both left that we’re able to have this kind of grace towards each other because we’re back to being human.”
Remini’s memoir Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology goes on sale this Tuesday, November 3rd.
