LeBron James took a huge tumble during Thursday night’s basketball game against the Oklahoma City Thunder crashing into the wife of star PGA Tour golfer Jason Day. After chasing a loose ball, the 250 pound 6-foot-8 athlete accidently ran into Ellie Day, knocking over her chair and sending her to the hospital during the fourth quarter of the Cavs 104-100 win.
Day was down for several minutes while she received medical attention, placed on a stretcher and taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. According to Jason Day’s agent, Ellie, who has just given birth to the couple’s second child last month, was suffering from concussion symptoms and resting comfortably. She was released early Friday.
“She squeezed my hand and said she was fine,” James stated after the game. “I think she was just a little weary. For me, obviously, her health is very important and hopefully she is doing well. The guys told me she’s doing great now. For me, just going for a loose ball, I tried to keep the possession going, I just hate that that was the end result.”
James also sent Ellie his best wishes on Twitter:
When asked about the dangers of fans sitting so close to the court he stated, “I think it’s a great experience for our fans. I mean, that doesn’t happen much. It’s unfortunate it happened tonight, but that doesn’t happen much. Our fans are why our game is so great. Sitting courtside, it’s all part of the game. It’s pretty cool. If I was a fan, which I am a fan of the game, but, I would love to sit courtside and watch games.”
