The beloved children’s program Sesame Street will now have a Spanish-language edition! Univision will debut the new children’s program, Sesame Amigos on Saturday, August 1st with 26 episodes. The 30-minute show will run during the kids programming block on “Planeta U” every Saturday at 8:30 AM ET.
Fans of the original series will get to enjoy cameos from Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Bert & Ernie. The show will also feature an array of Latino talent including: Diego Luna, Aislinn Derbez, Jackie Guerrido, Leslie Grace and William Valdes.
Here’s how Derbez, Grace and Guerrido celebrated the announcement:
Steve Youngwood, Sesame Workshop COO believes the show will help “kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder by reaching new Hispanic audiences with our funny, furry content and characters in ways that reflect their language and culture.”
Sesame Amigos will focus its programming on education and good manners. The show will also focus on getting Spanish-speaking toddlers ready for pre-school.
“Sesame Amigos is a new and innovative show designed specifically for Spanish-speaking families in the U.S.,” said Alberto Ciurana, president of Programming and Content at Univision Communications Inc. While versions of Sesame Street air in more than 150 countries, Sesame Amigos will provide Spanish-speaking preschoolers the tools they need to succeed in the United States.”
