Harrison Ford raised $191,000 for charity by auctioning an autographed leather jacket he wore in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. IfOnly.com announced the winning bid Tuesday.
“We are incredibly appreciative of Harrison Ford’s and Lucasfilm’s generosity to support the FACES research and clinical epilepsy programs at NYU Langone Medical Center,” Dr. Orrin Devinsky said in a statement. “A phenomenal success!”
Proceeds from the auction were furnished to the NYU Langone Medical Center and Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures. More than 50 people bid on the jacket, which started at $15,000, the company said.
The cause is a personal one for Ford, whose daughter has epilepsy.
“I’ve been very impressed with the work NYU and the FACES team have done in the field of epilepsy research, and I hope this jacket will provide some means to further that exploration,” Ford said in a previous statement. “This is a cause that’s near and dear to me, and unlike the cynical Han Solo, I’ve got a good feeling about this.”
