First Look: Oscar Isaac and Christian

Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale will find themselves in the middle of a love triangle in the film The Promise, set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. The historical drama takes place during the first world war and follows two men who fall in love with the same woman in a grand love story.

Bale stars as Chris, a renowned American journalist who finds his current assignment in the midst of a combat zone. Isaac plays bright medical student Michael, who is conflicted with old world traditions. Their love interest Ana (played by Charlotte Le Bon) is described as a beautiful and sophisticated artist.

The story takes place in the last days of the Ottoman Empire and it deals with the topic of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 when 800,000 to 1.5 million lives were lost.

The Promise was directed by Hotel Rwanda‘s Terry George and was written by George and Robin Swicord. It also co-stars Jean Reno and James Cromwell. No U.S. release date have been released as of yet.

This and other films will be available to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival from September 8-18.
