Patrick Stewart took to social media Saturday to confirm Professor Charles Xavier will appear in James Mangold’s Wolverine 3. Hugh Jackman and Stewart both starred in the first X-Men film in 2000. They most recently shared the screen in 2014’s Days of Future Past.
“Worst kept secret,” Stewart wrote on his Twitter account.
X-Men franchise producer Hutch Parker also confirmed the news in a recent interview with Collider. “I will confirm Patrick Stewart is part of the film,” he said.
Producer Simon Kinberg also revealed that Professor X will appear in the upcoming spinoff The New Mutants.
Jackman returns as the clawed mutant for the final time in Wolverine 3. Earlier this month it was confirmed that Narcos star Boyd Holbrook will portray the main villain.
The film will also see the addition of a new mutant, X-23. The character was originally introduced in the animated series X-Men: Evolution and later featured in the comics in 2004.
Wolverine 3 hits theaters in March 2017.
