Surprise! Legendary singer Prince secretly bought the house that was once featured in the 1984 film Purple Rain, in the summer of 2015. The two-story, three bedroom house located at 3420 Snelling Avenue in Minneapolis’ Longfellow neighborhood sold for $117,000.

Deborah Larson of Coldwell Banker Burnet remembers the unusual sale, “I don’t think he had a plan. I think he just wanted it,” she told Star Tribune. She also recalled receiving a phone call from a woman just before 5pm one afternoon offering $7,000 over the asking price with no financing needed. She admits she didn’t believe it was a real offer since many of Prince’s fans had made prank calls.

“I told her to call me in a couple hours when she did all that,” Larson remembers. “Lo and behold, she called almost to the minute and had everything done.”

At the time of purchase, the house needed a lot of repairs that were never done. There’s no word as to the future plans for the property, that is one of many that were owned by the superstar. Its fate lies in the hands of the estate that took over the handling of his affairs after he died suddenly on April 21 of an accidental drug overdose.
