Director Garry Marshall is ready to make Princess Diaries 3 with Anne Hathaway.
“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,” Marshall told People. “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”
Based on Meg Cabot’s novels, The Princess Diaries debuted in 2001 and jump started Hathaway’s career, who portrayed a teenager who learns she’s heir to the throne in the fictional country of Genovia. The second film, released in 2004, focused on Hathaway’s character preparing to ascend to the throne and falling in love with a character played by Chris Pine.
When asked if Pine would reprise his role of Lord Nicholas Devereaux, Marshall said: “Maybe … He’s quite big now, you know.”
The director also revealed that Pine’s father, Robert Pine, is in his upcoming comedy Mother’s Day!, starring Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson, among others.
“His father I know, I’ve seen him in plays,'” Marshall adds. “Chris Pine and my kids went to similar schools, so I knew him as a kid. [Pine’s father] is quite good, he plays a strange, funny Texan. He and Margo Martingale are husband and wife.”
Mother’s Day hits theaters April 29.
