Billy Corgan took to Facebook to gives fans an update from Pumpkinland on Thursday night. First things first, the 49-year-old musician injected hope into fans of the original Smashing Pumpkins by suggesting there could be a reunion in the not so distant future.
“We’re making plans, he said in the video. “I can’t give that away, but it’s going to be interesting.”
Adding fuel to the fire, a source told Consequence of Sound that Corgan is shopping around a reunion tour and festival slots for next summer. The site notes that since their split in 2000, original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin toured with Corgan for The End Times tour last summer. Guitarist James Iha performed with them in March, and most recently former bassist D’arcy Wretzky confessed she’d be open to playing again with them again as well.
But until that happens, Corgan admits he’s keeping busy with a few other projects. Among them are a solo album he says is “actually recorded and sort of mostly done” but doesn’t have a release date for yet and the formation of an as-of-yet unnamed band with Jeff Schroeder and Jack Bates. He describes the new band’s sound as, “much different from Pumpkins music.”
And if all that hasn’t been keeping him busy enough, he also acknowledged he purchased a minority stake in TNA Wrestling. It’s no wonder he’s not had enough time to come up with a band name!
