Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda performed their musical tribute to the victims of Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub, Love Make the World Go Round on Today Monday morning. Fifty survivors and victim’s families traveled to New York to support the release of the song thanks to United Airlines and Marriot Rewards.

During the interview portion, Lopez said she had the song in her possession for about eight months before deciding to use it to support #somosorlando. She also admitted that Miranda became the clear choice to collaborate with on this song after she heard his “Love is love is love” speech from the Tony Awards.

“When everything happened in Orlando I kind of heard it in a different way for the first time and I was like the world needs this,” Lopez said about the song to interviewers, Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly. “The world really needs the message of love being the answer. That’s what really matters and that’s what makes the world go round. Hate, anger, that’s not going to get us anywhere.”

Miranda added, “When Jen got in touch, it just felt like — I mean, knowing what Jen represents to the Latino community and what she represents to the LGBT community, that’s the music that’s playing it every club in Orlando — so, it felt like the perfect sort of way to amplify that message.”

Love Makes the World Go Round is available for purchase from iTunes with proceeds benefitting the Somos Orlando Fund.

“Basically, the money’s going to go to mental health services and services for the families of the victims and the greater Orlando area,” Miranda said.
