Ellen Page visited Chelsea Handler‘s new Netflix talk show, Chelsea. During her appearance, the actress joined in on the conversation about the Orlando shooting that left 49 people dead and 53 wounded.
“The reality is that violence towards LGBT people is a common thing,” the actress and LGBT activist says. “Hate crimes toward LGBT people, extremely anti-gay, anti-bi, anti-trans rhetoric that is constantly creating a poisonous environment, which leads towards people hating themselves, people being violent towards one another to bullying, to abuse. It really needs to stop because people really are struggling and they deserve to live freely, love freely, and not be afraid.”
The actress was joined by Brady Bunch star Florence Henderson and Handler’s former second grade teacher Mrs. Schectman, who often appears on the show.
“Stop selling more weapons,” exclaimed Henderson of the need for stronger gun control laws, causing the audience to applaud.
Mrs. Schectman added, “There was an item on the news of a gun seller and he said since the shooting in Orlando, he’s been selling more assault weapons than he had previously.”
The episode will be available to stream at 12:01 am on June 16.
