After three years on hold, Donald Glover‘s new series, Atlanta has a release date set for fall and a teaser trailer to share. Glover, who played Troy Barnes on NBC’s Community for five seasons, stars as Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks in the series he created. Marks is a young manager who returns to ATL after his cousin Alfred Marks’ (Brian Tyree Henry) music video goes viral. Their opposing views on art versus commerce, success and race will make their quest anything but easy.
In the recently released promo from FX, you see Glover as Marks waking up in different scenarios while the track Sleepless by Flume is playing. This show is getting a lot of early hype for the writing and acting but it seems like the soundtrack will be just as tight. After all, Glover is a music man himself— writing and rapping under the name Childish Gambino.
“It’s the show I always wanted to see on television,” Glover said during Fox upfronts. “It’s easier to comment on what’s happening on TV. TV shows are like novels now, you have to invest in them.”
His co-star Isiah Whitlock Jr., added, “It’s about truth. It’s about life. Even though it is a show for rappers, there’s a lot of truth, a lot of life to it.”
Atlanta premieres on Tuesday, September 6 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX.
