Holy ship! Eleanor Shellstrop is dead and she finds this unacceptable. Shellstrop, played by Kristen Bell in the new NBC comedy The Good Place, was hit by a tractor-trailer carrying erectile dysfunction products just before waking up in the afterlife. When she was alive, she was an attorney so she thinks she can argue her way out of death. But when she is told by her mentor Michael that she is in “the good place” because she did a good deed by helping get innocent people off death row, she realizes that a mistake has been made and they think she is someone else.
Stuck in a world where no one can curse, get drunk, and everyone is always nice, Shellstrop finds herself caught between staying in the afterlife or trying to find a way to return to the mundane life she had back on Earth.
The Good Place is a 13-episode comedy series from Parks and Recreation showrunner Michael Schur. The show co-stars Emmy Award winner Ted Danson as Michael who, through an unlikely set of circumstances, comes to be Eleanor’s guide through her self-designed self-improvement course.
Rounding out the cast are Manny Jacinto, Jameela Jamil, and D’Arcy Carden. The Good Place premieres on NBC on September 19.
