La 68ª edición anual de los premios Tony empezó con una gran bienvenida del actor Hugh Jackman el domingo por la noche en el Radio City Music Hall.
Jackman, el anfitrión de la noche, comenzó el programa brincando por las calles de Nueva York hasta llegar al Radio City Music Hall donde, tras bastidores, saludó a varias de las estrellas nominadas al premio Tony como Neil Patrick Harris y Sting.
Pero su tarea más importante fue el de introducir a la legendaria Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight y Fantasia, quienes cantaron una canción de la obra de teatro “After Midnight.”

La noche no sólo estuvo llena de sorpresas; la actriz Audra McDonald hizo historia como la actriz más premiada de los premios Tony de todos los tiempos, después de ganar su sexto Tony en la categoría de Mejor Actuación de una Actriz en un Papel Principal en una Obra de Teatro por su trabajo en “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.”
Neil Patrick Harris y Bryan Cranston también fueron premiados por protagonizar papeles principales en un musical y en una obra de teatro, respectivamente. Harris también tomó el escenario para darnos un pequeño show de su obra de teatro “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
Los presentadores incluyeron Kevin Bacon, Matt Bomer, Wayne Brady, Zach Braff, Kenneth Branagh, Patricia Clarkson, Bradley Cooper, Fran Drescher, Clint Eastwood, Emilio y Gloria Estefan, Vera Farmiga, Will Ferrell, Tony Goldwyn, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ethan Hawke, Carole King, ZacharyLevi, Lucy Liu, Kate Mara, Leighton Meester, Liev Schreiber, Orlando Bloom, LL Cool J, Jackson, Judith Light, Rosie O ‘Donnell y PatrickWilson, entre otros.
Los 26 ganadores fueron elegidos por unos 870 votantes que forman parte de las organizaciones Actors Equity Association, Dramatists Guild y Stage Directors, entre otras organizaciones.
