Gabriel Chavarria, star of Hulu’s East Los High, has been tapped to play one of two leads in the next installment of the Planet of the Apes franchise, War Of The Planet of the Apes.
The actor is currently in negotiations with 20th Century Fox and will be one of two humans in the film, much like James Franco’s part in 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Deadline reports. Mark Bomback will return as screenwriter. Matt Reeves will helm the project.
War Of The Planet of the Apes will start filming come October in Vancouver. The sequel promises to feature a “bloody battle between apes and humans” and has a release date of July 14, 2017.
Chavarria is currently the male lead in Hulu original series East Los High. He has participated in films such as Freedom Writer and A Better Life. Soon we will see him alongside Demian Bichir and Eva Longoria in the Image and Blumhouse production Low Riders. Chevarria will play the role of an East Los Angeles teen who is fascinated by the world of lowriders, torn between his traditional father (Bichir) and his gangbanger brother who he will compete against in the annual lowrider Supershow.
