On Sunday, Jan. 25 the brightest and most talented Hollywood stars arrived at the Shrine Auditorium to celebrate the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
This award ceremony is even more special being that the actors themselves gets to vote for their favorites in each category of the night, commemorating one other on the hard work they have accomplished over the past year.
Aside from all the winners of tonight’s show, which you can check out here, there were also celebrities who deserved to receive special awards for their fashion choices.
BEST
Among my favorites included Julia Roberts who wore a black jumpsuit by Givenchy and looked absolutely stunning and flawless as she made he way down the red carpet. Her glowing skin and reddish brown locks made the 47-year-old actress shine like the Pretty Woman that she is. What I loved was that she chose a pantsuit rather than a gown and looks effortlessly chic.
Julianne Moore was also a hit in a green custom-made Givenchy gown that worked effortlessly with her complexion. The “Still Alice” actress won on my best–dressed list and also took home the prize for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role.
Of course the red carpet glowed as Lupita Nyong’o graced us with her presence and wore an Elie Saab creation that she twirled for the cameras. The mix of colors and the stripes with the long-sleeves and plunging neckline was the perfect look for the actress. Lupita never disappoints!
Another winner in my book was Uzo Aduba who shined bright like a diamond in her canary yellow Angel Sanchez dress. What I loved about her look was that the color was perfect for her skin tone and fit her nicely in every way possible. Her soft makeup and slicked hair finished off her look and made the yellow pop on and off stage.
And finally, my girl Emma Stone made an impression with her black sheer skirt Christian Dior ensemble. The SAG Award nominee donned a red lip and a low pony to show off her elegant selection. I’ll be keeping my eye on you for the Oscars!
WORST
Of course you can’t have the good without the bad.
Tonight there were some ladies whose looks were not to my taste. While I will say their hair and makeup were exceptional their attire was something different.
Kelly MacDonald’s black dress was too simple for me. There is nothing wrong with a LBD but she could have added a small, long necklace or worn different colored heels that made her look standout a bit more.
Sophia Bush is radiant but her silky, red-orange Vivienne Westwood dress made her look like she was going to prom. I was also not a fan of how the dress was shaped around her hips.
The gown that Vicky Jeudy from “Orange Is the New Black” chose to wear at the SAG Awards was a bit too much for me. The color teal is perfect for her complexion but there was a lot going on with the slit, patterns and cutouts on her collar.
As much as I tried to like Rashida Jones in Emanuel Ungaro I just couldn’t. The dress is simple and I wasn’t sure if that shade of blue would have been my first option. What I am loving about her look is the red lip and the wispy bangs.
And finally Gwendoline Christie is another actress who fell victim to the silky over-the-top prom dress effect. The “Game of Thrones” star’s gown had too much material on the sides and her chest area looked like it needed a bit of altering to not make it look so slouchy.
HOT COUPLES
Last but not least, the couples who I would say were the holy grail of best dressed at this year’s SAG Awards.
Can we give a round of applause to Matthew McConaughey who looked regal in his royal blue tux and his lovely wife Camila Alves who was painstakingly breathtaking in a Donna Karan deep plum gown.
Of course the lady in red, Sofia Vergara, sure knew how to make that red carpet extra RED hot in a Donna Karan Atelier dress, while her fiancé and “Magic Mike” actor Joe Manganiello rocked a Made-to-Measure Ermenegildo Zegna tux.
Last but not least we have Jennifer Aniston in a vintage John Galliano dress from his 1998 Paris collection that showed off her best assets and huged her body perfectly. While her fiancé, Justin Theroux was smashingly handsome in a classic black suit, white shirt and skinny tie.
Which stars were your choices for best and worst dressed of the night?
