Television personality and host Rodner Figueroa was fired from Univision on Wednesday after making an inappropriate, racist comment about First Lady Michelle Obama during a live segment of the entertainment show “El Gordo Y La Flaca.”

Figueroa was commenting about the viral pictures from make-up artist Paolo Ballesteros who transformed himself into female celebrities, one of them being Michelle. Trying to add a touch of “humor” to the story, he started to compare Michelle’s appearance to someone from the cast of “Planet of the Apes.”

“Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she’s part of the cast of ‘Planet of the Apes’ the film,” stated the Emmy-winning host while Raul de Molina added, “I think Michelle Obama is a very attractive women,” trying to counter his comment which did not sit well with the network.

Thursday moring Univision released a statement to the public on their decision to part ways with Figueroa stating, “Yesterday during the entertainment show ‘El Gordo y La Flaca,’ Rodner Figueroa made comments about First Lady Michelle Obama that were completely reprehensible and in no way reflect the values or opinions of Univision. As a result, Mr. Figueroa was fired immediately.”

The segment aired live during the East coast feed but was edited for the West coast. Aside from being part of “El Gordo Y La Flaca” Rigueroa also leads the evening gossip show “Sal Y Pimienta” for Univision and since his dismissal the network has taken down all photos of the host off their sites and social media accounts.

Figueroa has yet to release a statement and comment on the incident.

Let it be noted that Univision is currently and actively working alongside the First Lady on various campaigns one of them being her Reach Higher initiative that encourages Hispanic students to apply for financial aid. Michelle recently sat down with Don Francisco, host of the network’s top-rated Saturday night program “Sabado Gigante,” to discuss the importance of post-secondary education and the financial aid available to many students who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
