Taron Egerton appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show Saturday to promote his latest film Eddie the Eagle and to clarify a few casting Star Wars rumors. The actor is reportedly being considered to play young Han Solo in a new standalone Star Wars film that will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
“I’ve heard this rumor, yes. I mean I’ve seen the stuff on the Internet, and I think any lad of my age would kill to play a part like that,” Egerton said. “It’s very, very flattering. I’ve no idea if there’s any truth in it but I mean, Lucasfilm, Disney, if there is then you know where I am.”
Disney chief Bob Iger recently confirmed that Chewbacca is set to appear in the new Han Solo movie. While speaking at a Deutsche Bank conference, Iger revealed that the film will be “an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie” and also added that it’s scheduled to be released after Star Wars VIII in 2018.
This will be the second in a series of standalone stories from Disney’s Lucasfilm, the first being Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is due in theaters Dec. 16.
