Robert Kirkman confirmed he’s no longer involved in writing future Transformers movies for Paramount. The Walking Dead creator said he was only part of the project for a brief moment due to a health issue that required him to abandon it.

“I have to say, I was only in that room for a day before I found out that I was having my throat surgery that kept me out of Comic Con,” Kirkman told Collider at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival.

Kirkman originally joined writers Akiva Goldsman (Angels & Demons), Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Iron Man), Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk) to help expand the Transformers franchise.

Michael Bay is set to direct all four new films. Lorenzo di Bonventura will produce with Steven Spielberg as executive producer.

“I have heard from the people that are in that room there are a lot of amazing ‘Transformers’ things coming,” Kirkman said about the franchise. “I’m very happy as a fan to see what comes from that.”
