The aliens have arrived on Earth and it’s up to Louise Banks to communicate with them in an attempt to avoid war, in the Paramount Pictures film Arrival. Amy Adams plays the expert linguist in the sci-fi thriller based on a 1998 short story by Ted Chiang.
The official description of the Denis Villaneuve (Sicario) directed film is as follows:
When a mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks – are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

The film co-stars Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker in the role of Colonel Weber and Jeremy Renner as physicist Ian Donnelly. Both Colonel Weber and Donnelly join Banks when the time comes to make contact with the beings for the first time.
Arrival is set to make its big debut at the 73rd Venice Film Festival before opening in U.S theaters on November 11.
