There’s a new trailer released on Friday by Warner Bros. for the film Sully starring Tom Hanks in the title role of Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger. Sullenberger is the real life “Miracle on the Hudson” pilot who successfully landed a plane in New York’s Hudson River with 155 passengers on board in 2009.
The IMAX release will show the intense moments when U.S. Airways Flight 1549 became disabled after a flock of Canadian geese were struck during its initial climb out of LaGuardia Airport. You can also see in this new trailer the moments the panicked Captain attempted to find the best possible place to land.
The film’s synopsis promises that it will also focus on the investigation after the heroic landing that threatened to destroy his career and reputation.
Sully is directed by Oscar-winner Clint Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby) and co-stars Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) as Sully’s co-pilot Jeff Skiles, Laura Linney (The Big C) as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger. The screenplay by Todd Komarnicki was based on the book Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.
The PG-13 rated drama opens in theaters on September 9.
