London Road was released in the U.K. in 2015 and it’s finally making its way across the pond. A trailer for the musical starring Tom Hardy, Olivia Coleman, Anita Dobson, James Doherty, and James Doherty, who also played their characters in the original stage play.
London Road is based on a true story and it documents the events of 2006 when the quiet rural town of Ipswich was torn apart after the discovery of five women’s bodies. The residents of this small town were left grappled with what it meant to be at the epicentre of this tragedy after a local resident was charged with the crime.
The film was written by using the words of those townspeople who actually lived through this, set to a musical score. The stage production ‘London Road’ was an immediate hit and earned five-star reviews when it premiered at the National Theatre in 2011. It returned to the stage in 2012 for a sold-out run.
London Road is directed by Rufus Norris (Broken, Cutting Horse) and is set to open in the U.S. in limited theaters on September 9.
