In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Oscar Isaac discussed Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII and how the new film impacts other franchise characters.
“In the new film, there’s a lot more to do. What happens now is the heroes get tested,” he explained. “All three of them [Poe Dameron, Daisy Ridley‘s Rey and John Boyega‘s Finn] get tested immensely…BB-8 gets tested too! Everybody gets tested! It’s the dark second chapter, but not really dark.”
“It’s the first time in my life when things have been mapped out for quite some time,” he added. “I’m basically Star Warring until 2020.”
Isaac also admitted to always working to “complicate and deepen” his character and takes credit for some of the character’s funniest lines. “We’re making s**t up as we go,” he revealed.
Adam Driver recently talked about working with Johnson and how his style of work differs from The Force Awakens‘ J.J. Abrams.
“Their temperaments are different,” Driver said to Entertainment Weekly. “I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was. There’s a lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language. I think it’s more of a testament to Rian coming into something very established and making it [his own]. I can’t wait to get on set, just because he’s so unassuming and intelligent and approachable. The script they’ve come up with is really great.”
Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on December 16, 2017.
