Three-time heavyweight wrestling champion Roman Reigns was suspended on Tuesday. World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) made the news official by sending out a press release.
“WWE has suspended Joe Anoa’i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days, effective immediately, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy,” the statement reads.
Although the organization does not specify how he violated the policy, it could be due to a number of reasons as stated on the description of their Talent Wellness Program, on their site.
“WWE Talent Wellness Program is administered independently by world renowned medical professionals and includes cardiovascular testing, ImPACT, testing for brain function, substance abuse and drug testing, annual physicals, and health care referrals,” says on their website.
The three-time heavyweight champion took to Twitter to address the charges:
Reign lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title on Sunday during Money in the Bank to Seth Rollins. Some people have speculated that the WWE was aware of the infraction ahead of this Pay-Per-View match.
On Monday night, the WWE announced that Reign will take on Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose during “WWE Battleground 2016”, on July 24, three days after his suspension is up.
