Sarah Hyland has joined the cast of ABC’s Dirty Dancing remake. The Modern Family star will play Lisa Houseman, Baby’s extraverted older sister. The role was originally played by Jane Brucker in the 1987 film.

Produced by Lionsgate TV, the remake will be a three-hour event filled with songs and dance performances popularized by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, who starred in the original film.

Directed by Wayne Blair, the new adaptation will be based on the 1987 film and not on the stage musical, “Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage”. Andy Blankenbuehler will choreograph the remake and Steven Altman will serve as production designer.

Colt Prattes and Abigail Breslin will play Johnny and Baby, respectively. Debra Messing will co-star as Marjorie Houseman, Baby’s mother.

Nicole Scherzinger was recently cast as Penny, Johnny’s dance partner and part of the entertainment staff at the Catskill Mountains resort. The former Pussycat Doll singer shared a photo of herself on Instagram Tuesday showing off her latest cardio workout session as she prepares for her new role.

An air date has not yet been set for the televised musical event.
