Winona Ryder returns to the 1980’s in the first trailer released by Netflix for the drama, Stranger Things. The series, written and directed by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, follows the strange supernatural happenings in a small Indiana town after a young boy vanishes seemingly into thin air. Ryder stars as his mother, Joyce Byers, who with the help of friends and concerned townspeople go searching for Will.
In the trailer, the police chief (David Harbour) admits that the craziest thing to happen in Hawkins was when an owl jumped into a woman’s head thinking it was a nest. He continued, “Ninety-nine out of a hundred times when a kid goes missing, the kid is with a parent or a relative.” When Byers questions him about the one time a child is not, you get silence. It looks like Hawkins is going to be dealing with a whole lot more than owls moving forward.
Netflix called Stranger Things “a love letter to the ‘80s classics that captivated a generation”. The series will consist of eight, one-hour long episodes premiering July 15th. The Duffer brothers will also serve as showrunners and executive producers.
The cast is rounded out by Matthew Modine, Cara Buono, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton.
