#MovementMondays: Gina Rodríguez destaca el trabajo de la actriz cubana Rosa Salazar

Gina Rodríguez continuó con la conversación sobre la falta de actores latinos en Hollywood este lunes. Como parte de su movimiento #MovementMondays, que inició en el mes de enero, Rodríguez destacó a través de su cuenta de Instagram el trabajo de la actriz de origen cubano Rosa Salazar, quien ha actuado en cintas como Divergent y Maze Runner. 

“El año pasado ella se elevó y representó a la comunidad latina con gracia y honor”, escribió Rodríguez. “Aquí tenemos prueba de nuestro poder y la triste realidad de nuestro actual estado”.

Como parte de este movimiento, la idea de la protagonista de Jane the Virgin es mencionar cada lunes a un latino importante en la industria del entretenimiento, para exponer su trabajo en el cine y la televisión, y de paso recordar que aún queda mucho por hacer para que los latinos se vuelvan mayoría en Hollywood.

“Los latinos solo realizan el 4% de los roles hablados en películas SOLO UN 4% (somos el 17% de la población)”, aseguró la actriz de 31 años, quien indicó que son los hispanos que acuden al cine quienes pueden cambiar las cosas en la industria. “Vemos más películas que cualquier otro grupo étnico, sin embargo filmes independientes liderados por latinos no han tenido la mejor suerte. Cesar Chavez (con el actor Michael Peña) recaudó 5.6 millones. ¡Podemos elevar ese número! Y cuando lo hacemos ellos invierten más en nosotros”, señaló la famosa.

This past year she has skyrocketed and represented the Latino community with grace and honor. Other projects we can support Men seeking Women and Chips projected to come out later this year. Here is proof of our power and the sad reality of our current state. Latinos make up 4% of speaking roles in films ONLY 4% (we are 17% of the population!) Latinos watch 9.5 movies a year making us the highest majority of movie watchers!!!! “You don’t have a major hit without Hispanic moviegoers,” Chris Aronson, Fox’s president of domestic distribution, told TheWrap. We watch the most movies than any other ethnic group, can you even fathom the power we have?!?! It's amazing!! Yet, independent films led by Latinos haven't had the best luck Cesar Chavez (with Latino Lead Michael Pena) grossed 5.6 million. Yet, Latinos make up 25% of the box office! We could get that number up! And when we do they invest more in us! When we show them where the money is going and where their money should be going, I think we can increase this 4%. How do we have Latino Stars to represent us? How do we have more Rosa Salazar's? WE MAKE THEM! WE MAKE THEM! “fewer Latino lead actors in the entertainment industry today, than there were seventy years ago,” a recent study by the Columbia University Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race shows. We must show the studios that if they cast Latinos then we will go watch the movies that include us, the whole of US, not just the Mexican movies or Puerto Rican ones, ALL OF THEM! We are stronger as a unit. Clearly we are very strong! And our human stories are no different. We should be SuperHeroes and Marvel Comic leads, we should be James Bond and Charlie's Angels (you get my point!) We need more writers, directors and studio heads, which will all be highlighted in the next coming weeks! My question of the week: what if we didn't watch these big marvel movies until they put us in them? What if we used our power to withhold until we are the leads in them?…

Tenemos que demostrarle a los estudios que si le dan papeles a los latinos, entonces nosotros iremos a ver las películas que nos incluyen”, aseguró la ganadora del Golden Globe, quien finalizó su escrito con una pregunta. “¿Qué pasaría si no vemos las películas de Marvel hasta que nos incluyan en ellas?, ¿qué pasa si demostramos nuestro poder hasta que seamos protagonistas de ellas?”
