Mindy Kaling is getting ready to premiere an all-new season of The Mindy Project on October 4, but don’t expect her to slow down anytime soon. The 37-year-old spoke to Variety Latino on the set of the hit Hulu comedy on Friday where she discussed, amongst other things, her casting in Ava DuVernay‘s A Wrinkle in Time which she said, “is all fairly done.”
“I’m so excited about A Wrinkle in Time,” Kaling to Variety Latino. “I’m such a fan of Ava, Selma was one of my favorite movies, not just from last year but of all time. So I was very surprised because the movie is obviously very different than anything I’ve ever done before. But I look at Oprah and Reese Witherspoon, the three of us come from such different worlds so it’s going to be really exciting to play opposite them. And also to meet these young children, Ava has such amazing ideas for how to cast this and I just trust her so completely and implicitly so I can’t wait to see what she does.”
The Hollywood Reporter announced on Wednesday that Kaling is set to play one of three supernatural beings known as the ‘Mrs.’ According to the story, she’ll take on the role of literature-quoting Mrs. Who, Witherspoon will play Mrs. Whatsit, and Oprah will star as Mrs. Which.
“It takes someone like Ava to take a classic text like A Wrinkle in Time, a beautiful, award-winning book that has moved millions of children in the course of 35 years, maybe more, and just be like, ‘yeah, I’m reenvisioning it to just make it modern and kind of inclusive.”
