Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult star in Equals, the upcoming sci-fi love story from Like Crazy director Drake Doremus. The actors play members of a totalitarian state where emotions have been eradicated. A24 Films released the first official trailer of the film on Thursday.
In the trailer, set over the Chromatics‘ song ‘Kill For Love’, Silas (Hoult) and Nia (Stewart) fall in love despite living in a dystopian society where civilians are not permitted to feel or act on emotions. Overtime the two decide to finally act on their emotions. In the final scene of the trailer they share a very intimate kiss, as Nia whispers, “Just remembers what this feels like.”
“I have the most ultimate faith in his process,” Stewart said about Doremus in a promotional video for the film. “It works. It really is effective.”
The film is written by Nathan Parker (Moon) and has a tremendous supporting cast, led by Guy Pearce, Jacki Weaver, Bel Powley and Toby Huss.
The producers on the project include Ridley Scott, Michael Schaefer and Michael Pruss of Scott Free; and Ann Ruark, Jay Stern and Chip Diggins of Route One Films.
