Kerry Washington stars as Anita Hill in HBO’s Confirmation. The film centers around the controversial confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas (Wendell Pierce), who was accused of sexual harassment by Hill, a university professor.
A trailer for the film was released on Friday and features Hill under intense scrutiny by the media and elected officials, who question her motives and reasons for coming forward.
The real-life confirmation hearing was televised to an estimated 30 million households, according to People.
The film, directed by Rick Famuyiwa, also stars Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Hudson, Modern Family‘s Eric Stonestreet, Boardwalk Empire‘s Jeffrey Wright and The Americans‘ Alison Wright.
Academy Award-nominated writer Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) wrote the script and executive produce the drama, which is being produced by Groundswell Productions in association with ABC Signature Studios.
Groundswell CEO Michael London and production president Janice Williams executive produced alongside Grant and Washington.
Confirmation premieres April 16 at 8 p.m ET on HBO.
